Sussex family eating disorder service

Who we are

We are a family-based service working across Sussex with children, young people and their parents/ carers/family members to treat Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa.

We are able to offer advice and consultation to parents/carers or professionals about other eating disorders but we do not currently assess or treat them. (for example, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID.)

The service operates 9am-5pm Mondays to Fridays except bank holidays.

We are commissioned to assess for, and treat, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa for any young person between the ages of 10-18 who are registered with a GP in Sussex.

Sussex is a large geographical county that has a diverse community. Our family-based approach to assessment and treatment seeks to be mindful of this diversity in all its forms, be it visible or not.

Eating Disorders do not discriminate. They can affect individuals across all classes and groups, of all ages and genders; including trans and non-binary young people, and all ethnic communities.

We have a specific referral form that we ask each referrer to complete fully, as all of the information requested within it is important.

Families are also able to self-refer via and by completing the form above.

We advise all families or professionals to organise a GP appointment so that all of the physical health data asked for on the referral form can be taken.

There is guidance on the form to support referrers with this process.

For advice on whether a child or young person meets our criteria please call 01444 472670, choosing option 4, between Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Alternatively, please complete our referral form and email it to or

We aim to be in contact within 24 hours of the referral being received. If we receive the referral outside of normal working hours we will be in contact on the next working day.

If a child/young person becomes physically unwell whilst waiting for a referral please either contact their GP, call the NHS non-emergency helpline 111 or attend A&E. If it is an emergency dial 999.
